Watch out....air raids have been reported in Apple Class
When the sirens sound, we take cover under the tables until the all clear has sounded. What better way to learn about The Blitz?

Exploring Nets
Year six were given a sheet containing drawings of nets and had to predict which ones would fold up to create cubes. Then, using Polydron, the children tested their predictions. We then began thinking about which net would be most useful for us in designing our Gas Mask boxes as part of our 'Britain at War' topic.
WW1 Maths: Seating soldiers.
Year six have been working on this maths investigation as part of our WW1 topic. As their teacher I was inspired by their approach to exploring this and the resilience they demonstrated. How would you go about solving this?
Diary entries WW1
Following our day in the trenches, year six have written some fantastic diary entries inspired by the Battle of the Somme. We have been busy tea staining them to make them look authentic. We also chose an italic, cursive font and typed them up to recreate the common handwriting style used by many soldiers in their diaries.

A morning in the trenches.
Year 6 have been British soldiers this morning. We have recreated the trenches in our classrooms where we enjoyed our rations (crackers, a slither of chocolate and a boiled sweet), listened to the diary entries of Charlie May (a British Soldier killed during the battle of the Somme) and wrote our own diary entries whilst listening to the noises of gunfire and explosions. Wow. What a morning! Some of the writing the children have produced has been inspiring. Really great stuff, troops!
