Starting to sketch Sir Ranulph Fiennes - Art

This was sent home on paper today with your child......

Dear Parents,
SATs Update - Friday 10th May 2018

So, SATs week next week!

The children are working so incredibly hard it is brilliant to see.  Whilst we appreciate that SATs are important we don’t want any of the children to be worried about next week so please help us by telling them this important message as many times as you like – be the absolute best that you can be and we couldn’t ask for any more than that. If they all perform to the best of their abilities then, as a year group, they will do very well indeed.
Monday is Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, Tuesday is reading and Wednesday and Thursday are maths. Please try and ensure that the children get plenty of sleep so they can be the best they can be and then we can all look forward to our SATs party on Friday.
SATs breakfasts
We are going to lay on a small breakfast every morning from Monday -Thursday from 8.20 - 8.40am. If your child would like to attend, then they are more than welcome. The focus is on a more of a treat breakfast with Pain au Chocolate, pancakes, brioche and breakfast bars being on offer along with orange or apple juice. There will also be apples and bananas for those who want a healthier option! You don’t need to let us know, just turn up at 8.20am at the main entrance and head for Apple Class.
SATs Party
Friday will be an enjoyable and relaxed day and the children can come in non-uniform. Luch will be as normal (hot meals or packed lunch) but if you wish to send your child in with a small amount of party food to sharesavoury or sweet, we can then have a mid-morning nibble! During the morning some of the children may wish to play out on the field or remain class based with a game that they bring in – the afternoon will be similar to the morning and then there is the Y6 film treat after school (don’t forget your tickets!)
I got a bit carried away when writing this letter and have ended up writing a poem for the children that you can find on the back....
Many Thanks,

Mr Preston and Miss Bendall

A Poem for Year 6

The time is nearly upon us, for the famous Y6 SATs,
But we’re not really worried, as were grinning like Cheshire CATS!
We’ve done lots of preparation, revision and much more,
Mr PrestonMiss Bendall and Mrs Barnett know we’ll get a cracking score!

Next week won’t really phase us, we’re SATs superstars,
We could take them anywhere with confidence, even up in Mars!
Reasoning papers, arithmetic, SPAG and a spelling test
All that really matters, is that we just try our best!

The tests are such a small part of the journey through our life,
There’s so much more to experience, enjoyment will be rife.
Take lots of time this weekend, do the things that give you pleasure,
Lots of fresh air, playing with friends and relaxation in large measure!

But know this Year 6, whatever happens, we’ll all be proud of you,
You all have unique talents - that no test can prove are true.
You're wonderful amazing people, wear a smile upon your face,
Believe in yourselves, be brilliant, we know you will be ace!

Mental Health - Wellbeing

This week we discussed the important topic of mental health. The children were really sensible and mature with their responses and questions.

Image result for best you can beJust a quick note to say the children are all working really hard in readiness for next week!

A few of them are a little worried about their tests, so please help us to reassure them that as long as they are truly the best that they can be -  then we cant ask for anymore! It is that simple.

On Monday it is Speelling 😏, Punctuation and Grammar, Tuesday is Reading and then on Wednesday and Thursday it's Maths.

Please ensure the children get plenty of sleep and then we can all look forward to our SATs party day on Friday!

PSCHE - Coping with loss

In PSHCE this week we talked about the effect of loss. This could have been loss through death or loss through permanent  non contact.

The children were really mature and were able to come up with coping strategies for when people do experience loss.

If you wish to watch the video the children saw and discuss any questions they may have with yourselves then you can see it here....
